Q: I would like to paint paneling but need advice from those who have done it. The paneling in question is sheet paneling with a semi-glossy finish. What would you recommend as a primer, and would you recommend using latex or oil-base paint? The paneling is located in a low traffic area
A: yes, TSP is great for removing shine. I'd use Kilz primer, then latex paint, especially if it's low traffic. Are you planning on filling in the paneling grooves or just painting over it? Keep in mind that depending on the sheen of the paint, those grooves will either show more or less.
